The historic fishing village of Barnegat Light is home to Wildflowers by the Lighthouse and Wildflowers Too Art Gallery—a place deeply shaped by its history, its homes, businesses, organizations, and the people who have given this community its distinctive character. 

 

"Historic Preservation Through Art" was a community art project sponsored by Wildflowers Too Art Gallery in 2025. The project was created to honor and preserve the history and character of Barnegat Light by commissioning 18 artists to create portraits of noteworthy historic homes, businesses, and organizations. Each painting captures more than a physical place; it captures a moment in time and helps preserve a story that deserves to be remembered.

At a time when change happens so quickly and newness seems to be everywhere, these portraits offer an opportunity to pause and remember what came before. The places represented in this collection helped shape Barnegat Light into the community it is today. Their stories are part of our shared history, and these works of art serve as both a celebration of that heritage and a visual record of it.

Through "Historic Preservation Through Art," we hope to keep these places and their stories alive—not simply as memories of the past, but as an enduring part of Barnegat Light’s continuing story.
