WILDFLOWERS DESIGNER SHOWCASE
CLOTHING DESIGNER MIEKO MINTZ
Wednesday, August 23rd 4 to 8pm
This is a very special time of the season for Wildflowers -- our Designer Showcase is coming up. And this year's event is absolutely our most special ever.
Art-to-wear clothing designer Mieko Mintz is coming, and she will bring with her about 80 brand new designs for the new season. We are eager for for you to meet her and for her to meet our wonderful Wildflowers community.
In addition, there will be new designs from a host of international designers -- Bitte Kai Rand, Zuzu Bart, plus our beloved Ray Harris and Annemieke Broenink. And others!
Because this year's show will be so special, it will start early -- at four, and it will run until eight onThursday, August 23rd. It will be at Wildflowers Too at 506 Broadway. If you have any questions, give us a call at 609-361-8191.
This will be an evening of great creativity and fun!
Cricket Luker, owner of Wildflowers by the Lighthouse discovered Mieko Mintz in the winter of 2016 when she was researching artists to invite into her gallery’s “Women in Fiber” show, which opened the 2016 summer season at Wildflowers Too. It turned out to be a match made in heaven for both women.
Mieko’s signature line features jackets and vests made from vintage sari kantha, each with its own color palette and its own unique story. First the saris are made into kantha in West Bengal and then are cut to fit her clothing designs. The treatment, layering and stitching of the fabric is done in such a way to create materials which are especially soft to the touch. Her idea is to create a kantha line that is comfortable and yet sophisticated and contemporary. She finds romance in the saris’ reincarnation in the new kantha -- old saris coming back to life in a new time and place.
Meiko Mintz was born in Japan. She opened her first store in the West Village in 1999 and later moved to her current location in Soho.
Wildflowers by the Lighthouse is thrilled to partner with Mieko to present these creative, comfortable, one-of-a-kind pieces of heirloom quality clothing to our customers. And we are honored that Mieko will come to Wildflowers for our Designer Showcase.
